In 2000 at the Ferry customs post a transit shipment was arrested – poppy seeds with the total weight of 48 tons 600 kg with supportive documents containing unreliable information bound from Afghanistan to India. According to experts’ conclusion, the cargo was intended for growing opium poppy in the area covering 11 thousand 226 hectares. The seized shipment has been destructed in the presence of representatives of international organizations, foreign embassies accredited in Azerbaijan and mass media.
